D-Day
Here they are...my thoughts for "public" consumption. I've been thinking about this for awhile...I began, but then I got lost in the maze of computer confusion. This week through the frustration of trying to forward the wedding pictures on HP Image Zone and not being able to connect with Snapfish...I discovered Picasa...and now...I have discovered this wonderful site for "blogging." I'm actually tired of holding my "inspiring" thoughts to myself.
I love Bob Gass's devotional, THE WORD FOR TODAY. I generally read it and think of someone I'd like to share it with. Today is no different so here goes:
"WE WALK BY FAITH, NOT BY SIGHT." 2 Corin. 5:7 Walking by faith....
After refusing to worship idols, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were thrown in a fiery furnace. Sounds pretty hopeless, eh? Not for the God Who specializes in doing the impossible; Who isn't known for "business as ususal." When men do something spectacular we can detect human logic behind it. But as one author writes, "God doesn't build skyscrapers; men [do]...and they have the touch of human genius. But you can't find a man who can make a star. And when God steps in, ['it's] like the difference between a skyscraper and a star." God honored the Hebrew children's faith by bringing them safely out of the fire. The king himself declared, "Blessed be....God...who...delivered His servants who...trust in Him...there is no other god who is able to deliver in this way" (Da 3:28-29 NASB).
Many people who appear to be carefree, have anxieties only God understands: money problems, employment issues, health challenges and marital concerns. So God says, "Transfer all your anxieties to me" (See 1Pe 5:7). When you walk by faith you get answers to prayer that challenge human reasoning. And looking back you realize you couldn't have come up with a better solution yourself. Poet Patrick Overton said, "When you come to the edge of all the light you have and are about to drop off into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing that one of two things will happen: there will be something solid to stand on, or you'll be taught to fly." Remember, "Walk by faith, not by sight." And just when you think you've learned how to do that, you'll face a situation that requires you to learn it all over again!
I find it interesting that this weekend is the opening of the latest Indiana Jones film. One of the recalled scenes from the past films was when he and his girlfriend had to step out on what appeared to be thin air...and only then was there a "ROCK" beneath their feet leading them to the other side. This was shown in our church as a "picture" of FAITH...and it is!!! We cannot "SEE" or it wouldn't be called "FAITH."
Some of us are now "called" (YES, called by God) to take a leap of faith by moving out of our comfort zone to Tampa, FL to begin a brand new church!!! Last night we met at the Pastor's home...8 of us...for prayer (and fasting) communion, worship. GOD met us there. It was sweet. For me--it was amazing that we prayed over the loss of Steven Curtis Chapman's child who was just that day run over by their teen age son and I wept from the depth of my heart. It must be a speck of what they're experiencing. God hears our prayers.
