God Gave Gifts

My devotional this morning says: "Three of the most common problems in any organization, including the church, are (1) putting someone in the wrong slot and leaving them there because there's no one else to do the job (2) not understanding someone's gifting and not providing adequate training, direction and information to promote teamwork; (3) leaders who don't know how to communicate their vision clearly."
When my oldest child (a daughter) entered college, her little brother was only 5. This reminded me that during the time my youngest child was hearing the oldest son talk about majoring in math and eventually chose to become an actuary, he would follow in his big brother's foot steps. Needless to say, he had lots of time to think about what 'he' wanted to be! However, he got it all wrong for quite a number of years...while he was little, that is. He's the guy on the left. The only problem was I didn't see that he was well suited for that profession and I began to think with him about what he 'might' be suited for even though it was still a great number of years away. All I could think of was something that involved 'talking' since he did a lot of that! When he did go to college he majored in communications and was called into the ministry! How about that!
Some of you probably remember the song that included the words, "What shall I be? Shall I be happy? Shall I be rich? Qa sa rah, sa rah (Sp?)" We were meditating those words a lot!
My youngest daughter planned from the time she was in first grade to become a teacher. I thought that was a noble goal, however, once she was in college, married and had a child she saw the requirements for graduation and chose instead the fast lane for graduation which meant social work. That has served her well because she had not one, but two children before she graduated from college. Later she adopted a beautiful daughter from Guatemala. She and her husband became foster parents to siblings, a son and daughter born of a mother in prison due to being addicted to 'crack cocaine.' They have now adopted those two. I think that qualifies her for practicing SOCIAL WORK from home.
Ironically, my oldest daughter was always very active physically and became an aerobics instructor and eventually a yoga instructor. But she married a football coach so her love of sports is always on the forefront. However, now after receiving her Ph.d. she's a Professor in college.
All my children have some "teach" in them...the oldest son has 6 children and they homeschool. He can be found "training them up in the way they should go so that when they are old, they should not depart from it. (Pr. 22:5)" Praise the Lord!
I'm VERY gifted: Ps. 127 says, "Children are a gift from the Lord; babies are a reward."
