Today we read about how Adam "named" all the animals. It started me thinking about my children's names and even more importantly their children's names. Some of them are quite unusual. Martaivius, Nautica, Garrison Nehemiah, Kenan Grant, Justice, Charley Crowe, Amara, Arian, Arius. We have quite a collection of less than common names!
My name is rather common. Bob is VERY common. I wonder which makes life easier or if it even matters. Spelling certainly can matter. Trying to tell someone your last name when it's difficult to spell can lead to a lot of frustration, so often when making dinner reservations it's just easier to tell a little white lie and say "Smith."
My one daughter's name is "Cy". She has a great opportunity with her name! Everyone seems to ask what it's short for. It's not an abbreviation. Her whole name is Andrea Cy. My first boss had a beautiful little girl whose name was Cy Pugh!! I thought of a "sigh" when I saw her and never forgot her name, so of course...when I was expecting my second daughter, that name resurfaced. I was proud when I noticed SIGH on Cy's vanity license plate. Funny, how little stories like that make an impression.
Now my older son talks about how when reading the scripture where the lady was asking the judge to "grant justice"....his two boys eyes lit up because each of their names were being spoken. However, the younger of the two, Justice, was spoken several more times than his brother and he made sure everyone knew that by holding up 5 fingers...trash talking his older brother in a Christian homeschooling environment! Oh, my, original sin.....we just can't escape it. Thank goodness we have a Saviour.
