Perhaps many are as concerned as I am about getting through to God regarding our neediness as individuals and as a nation! Sometimes I have a sense of not doing my part when I haven't spent enough time with the Lord in His Word and in prayer. Today, after awakening at 4:00 a.m. in order to get my friend to the airport by 5:00, I came home to return to bed. However, I was anxious to get into my devotionals which have been missed over the past couple of weeks.
God is soooo faithful! After reading a very inspiring word about relationships in my Bob Gass, The Word For Today devotional, which states in part: "Wake up! The clock's ticking and the days are flying by. Yes, you must fulfill your God-given assignment in life, but not at the cost of the people who matter. Take a moment and think about these words: 'And Jonathan had David reaffirm his...love for him...Then Jonathan said to David..You will be missed, BECAUSE your seat will be empty (1 Sam 20:18 NIV).'" This scripture...in that translation...really touched my heart in a special way. I do miss my many loved ones because their seats ARE empty at my table and especially at holidays do I feel it the most.
As I began to actually write my prayers...as I often do as a point of contact...immediately the scripture "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all (Ps. 34:19)" came to me. I was quite encouraged as I recognized the Holy Spirit had brought this promise to my heart and it wasn't because I was in need so much as thinking of my family or friends or even strangers across America and in other parts of the world who need to HEAR THAT!!! If only I had a way to get the Word to them!!!
Looking for this particular scripture in context brought me to Psalm 34....one of the best psalms with lots of promises!!!! "I sought the Lord and He heard me and delivered me from all my fears......O, fear the Lord, you His saints; For those who fear Him, there is no want....The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and His ears are open to their cry.....The righteous cry, and the Lord hears and delivers them from all their troubles."
I know from past experience that when we get serious with God, He gets serious with us and we can take His Word to the bank! I just pray that as I send my thoughts toward you, that you will receive assurance that God delivers on His promises and that you will "watch for the answers!" Watch and pray...that would be my word to you...for today :>)
