Don't you just love it! He didn't care that everyone thought he was wealthy or talented...he was just happy that they liked him and he had a chance to become their friend.
Not many neighborhoods are like that anymore. We're too isolated. It's sad! It reminds me of a couple of personal stories.
One is when my Mom was living and was pretty addicted to soap operas, my sister was trying to talk her out of watching them because they were pretty 'trashy'. My Mom said, "I feel like they're my friends." My sister said, "Yes, but they don't feel like you're their friend."
One of my pastors shared a story about a missionary in Africa where a little, old widow lived alone in a remote area and each time he and his family had to pass by her little garden she'd wave them down and want to talk at length. They began to dread these exchanges and started to look for alternative routes to avoid her. However, the widow told them, "My Jesus told me today: 'Your friends are coming by a certain way today" and so, she'd get to visit with them.
Would that not put a guilt trip on you???? JESUS told me you'd be coming by....??? Jesus says in John 15:14 "You are my friend if you obey me. I no longer call you servants, because a master doesn't confide in his servants. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me."
I like being Jesus' friend.....What A need I had....and He could fill it...INDEED :>)
