MAKING A LASTING IMPRESSION

Bob Gass's devotional inspired me once again: "Michelangelo worked on 44 statues and completed 14 of them. The unfinished ones are in a museum in Italy--the unfilled potential of a great genius. What's sadder is people who could become masterpieces if only they were developed."

These words started my mind wandering to the presidential choice we have presently. I can't help but think one of the issues that looms large is AGE difference! Isaiah 46:4 says "Even when your hair has turned gray, I will take care of you. I made you and will take care of you. I will carry you and save you."

Frankly, for John McCain to be able to speak as quickly and not have to 'search' for a word to complete his sentences at age 72...compared to me at age 65 shows me that God is helping him.

Another concern I have is based on 1 Kings 12:8 where King Rehobam "forsook the counsel of the elders which they had given him, and consulted with the young men who grew up with him and served with him" things went horribly in the kingdom. I know Barack Obama isn't only consulting with 'young' men, however because of his young age and few years in the senate...not that he can help that....I fear there is a lot of truth to the statment applied to him about 'on-the-job training.'

I truly admire Obama's intelligence and willingness to gather information from others. I belive that as he continues to serve our country, he could become a great public servant...even President. I don't, however, believe now is his time.

Bob Gass goes on to say in today's devotional: "Give up! You've got to be willing to sacrifice what you are in order to become what God wants you to be. Moses gave up the riches of Egypt to identify with a nation of slaves. Paul gave up the prestige of being a Pharisee to pay the price of being an apostle. Every achiever has a 'give up' story--nothing comes free."

It's possible Obama, like Moses knows he's called for something important....and only time will tell if it's to become the President of our great nation in 2009. If not, then he is still young enough to serve humbly, and learn and look to 'what next, Lord.' I just pray that he's praying to the LORD JESUS CHRIST for direction as he says he is.

It's for all of us to pray to the Lord that He will see that each of us will vote and vote the way that God's choice will surface and lead us through these troubling times. Personally, I wouldn't want the job :>)
