The significant problems we have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created them. Albert Einstein

After thinking awhile about the origins of much of what we use as modern day “symbols” of Christmas and listening to the well thought out feedback I received after making it a part of my blog, I would like to put my own personal thoughts together for consideration also.

I have to admit that the timing of the 'information' was welcomed because I probably could use a good reason to excuse myself from future participation in the 'holiday' of what we call American style Christmas. However, that doesn't necessarily mean I will not continue to enjoy blessing others with gifts and cards and parties so you can see that much of my writing is in theory only. I'm tired of doing it the way we do it. That's just me and I wouldn't want anyone to feel “condemnation” coming from me as I write these words. I've just been 'stressed' more than normal I think.

I think we, as Americans may have bought into a huge marketing scheme...a little like the frog placed into the pot of cold water while the water was being turned up slowly until he was boiled to death.

I've seen the disappointment in the face of a child after opening MANY presents..wanting to know, 'aren't there any more?' Have we trained our children to be 'greedy? I think we have.

I went through a time of awakening about Halloween and fought with my third child who wanted to go trick or treating. I can't say that it was worth it as far as leading her into desiring to know Christ, but as far as my desire to take a stand for righteousness, I feel I did what I believed was right. I know that it appears innocent to dress 'little' children up in cute little costumes, but when I was a teenager, I did some destructive things such as soaping car windows which I'm not proud of and I had no business being allowed out to do. Of course, I was raised in a heathen home in spite of “accepting Christ” at the tender age of 9 and being baptized in water and going to church most of the time.

“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”--at least that's my goal!

I believe most reading this are doing that according to their own consciences. I think our churches are compromising in lots of ways with the world...music being one...getting louder to try to draw the younger people and dressing down which at times is not just casual but, immodest.

I'm finding it easier to blend in than to be different and that bothers me, but alas all I can do is write this blog and hope that those reading it won't be offended but will 'think' and pray and try to understand why I would offer up such a controversial subject. My daughter-in-law, Gail has a preacher on her blog that is worthy of listening to...http://www.godtube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=19fd9c84c942a08316e0 He's calling a whole generation to holiness and a distinction that we seldom hear preached today!

It's not easy to STRETCH!!!! Jesus said, “We're to be IN the world, but not OF the world.” Sometimes it's hard to tell where the lines are drawn. I hope this opening of a discussion will keep all our minds open to further topics of discussion. Please write your thoughts to me and be frank!

Thanks for your feedback!
