Passing Time
PASSING TIME

Time is one element we all have in common.  How we "spend" our time is mostly up to us.  I started reflecting on what may be thought of as a "small" gesture that occurred recently.  I may sound unusual in my response to this gesture because many of you could have this occur frequently.

The "gesture" I'm referring to is that someone I hardly know took the TIME to walk across a restaurant to speak with me.  In a season of readjusting to a new city, this act of kindness touched me in a special way!  I don't get recognized very often, therefore it felt so good to have someone walk over and share a few kind words.

To add to my blessing, this occurred in front of someone visiting from out of town.  I feel it was a good "witness" because my "friend" was letting me know that we had met at a Bible Study we each attend.  She had only attended one of the sessions since I had joined the group, making it difficult for me to identify her.

All of this gratitude has welled up inside, because some days I feel everyone has somewhere to go and someone to be with except me. Now that is not to say that I'm feeling "sorry" for myself, just consternation.I have taken steps to meet people, but sometimes we can feel alone even in a crowd.  Life seems to be a continual transition.

I hope I can remember to be a friendly person...who makes friends and blesses them in some way.  I know the Bible says that to "make" friends, we must show ourselves friendly.  Acquaintances are one thing...friends are another!  We also have read, "there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother."  Of course, His Name is Jesus!  I praise the Lord for Him!

In a time of Smartphones, I-Pads, I hope these words will encourage us all to "look" at people...not just on Face Book.  You may make a difference in a person's life by giving them "real time" as you look into their eyes...not just their latest post!  I enjoy Face Book and e-mail and even an occasional game of Solitaire while "passing" time, but I would lots rather have a "real-life" conversation either in person or by phone.  I hope I don't discourage anyone from reaching out via the web...however, real people/real time is better still.

Blessings...
Donna
