Great & Precious Promises

One of the most important things we can "habitually" do as Christians is read, understand and KNOW God's word. It requires discipline, (a Bible reading plan) to put His word into our hearts and minds, but the effort is worth it. The Holy Spirit will bring it to our remembrance as we need it.

Many people make the effort to "memorize" much of scripture. Psalm 23 and John 3:16 were taught in Sunday School when I was only a teenager. I am grateful for that.

I have scriptures in my heart that I can "quote" but they are generally a result of simply being so hungry to know Him (God) better that I have listened on radio, TV and, of course, to sermons at church. As I have heard these "words" spoken over and over, they are easily recalled when I'm thinking or sharing with someone.

I am amazed at times when I have been asked to 'speak,' I can quote scripture and verse without having memorized them.  THANKS, HOLY SPIRIT!!!  God loves us and I will share with you one of my favorite "thoughts."

2 Peter 1:4--"And because of his glory and excellence, He has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that ENABLE you to share His divine nature and escape the world's corruption caused by human desires. 5--In view of this, make every effort to RESPOND to God's promises.

Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellance with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, 7--and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone."

Wow!  I truly love God's word...Some of it is hard to understand, but with the variety of "helps" that are available to us today and the excellent teachers and preachers God has provided, we can begin to understand it not just from a historical standpoint, but the Holy Spirit makes it relevant to us in an every day environment.

I was challenged to find a favorite scripture and I must say it was difficult to choose a favorite because there are so many wonderful scriptures in the Bible.  After pondering the choice, I finally realized my particular favorite is Hebrews 11:6--"Anyone who wants to come to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who sincerely (diligently) seek Him."

I hope you will be assured of a "favorite" scripture just in case you are asked to sharet it with someone!

PS...My favorite color is "yellow."  What's yours?

It's important to KNOW those things...-:)
