High Standards

On the eve of Obama's swearing in as our 44th President I have a sense of the "weight" of not just the obvious responsibilities he will shoulder, but how he will handle those responsibilities. Simply because he is the first 'black' president, he needs to hold to very high standards of character. He is a huge symbol to black Americans! If he were to fail morally as Clinton or Nixon did during their terms in office, it would rob black people of so much of the progress they have made by his election.
I think it's wonderful that he has chosen Abraham Lincoln as a role model for the office he will hold for the next four years and possibly even eight. Lincoln leaned heavily on Godly wisdom to help him in the hard years he occupied the office. No doubt the years facing Obama will not be easy either and we as citizens can only hope that he will lean heavily on the Lord for true wisdom that comes only from above.
Regardless, of where we stood throughout the longest battle for the presidency in history, we certainly need to uphold this man who will occupy the office. As a nation, we need God's grace. I pray that this 'black' man with a strange name will make us proud and prove himself to be a man of brilliance and character.
